Percutaneous image-guided thermoablation by radiofrequency (RF) has rapidly become an accepted method for ablation of primary and secondary hepatic tumor nodules 1,2. Some investigators have proposed to use magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with an open magnet for probe placement and monitoring of RF procedure 3,4. We designed and tested a new dedicated MR-compatible RF probe to be used in an open–magnet MRI system. We describe the technique for MR guidance and report our initial experience with this device.
